Not a PTA Mum?

As a parent, in fact as a human being, we get to wear a lot of different hats in our lives.  I don’t mean actual hats of course but, oh crappit, the latest hat that I find myself wearing is one that I never, ever, in my wildest nightmares thought that I would ever, EVER wear.

Survival of the Fittest

What is it with competition?  Life is one big competition isn’t it?  Survival of the fittest and all that.  So, why can’t kids compete against each other anymore?  Are we seriously thinking that they will be damaged if they lose?  Yesterday was my children’s school Sports Day (or Games Day), which, by the way was only an hour long.  There was a host of excellent games encouraging the children to physically stretch themselves, but there was no official competition.  Participation was the name of the game.  This has got me thinking.

T’s 6th tooth ‘just fell out’ at school today and arrived home in this cute little mouse.

The Cough

The life of Ryrie seems to be stuck in a perpetual state of coughing and it’s really starting to P me off.  The Cough (yes, I have used a capital letter, it has become the fifth member of the Ryrie family and so is worthy of this grammatical promotion) arrived in our midst late November with a momentary easing at the end of December before coming back with avengeance two weeks ago.  I actually think I will go mad when I sit on the side of T’s bed trying to get her to calm her breathing in the middle of a fit, and then, oooh, what’s that? yep, could it possibly be? yep, The Cough is now coming from J’s room.  The Cough is now in Dolby Surround Sound Stereo.
